How to store your e-surf in winter
If you happen to take a break from motosurfing in winter and don't have convenient conditions to continue surfing, it will be helpful for you to figure out how best to store away and maintain your e-surf. A few plain and precise recommendations will help you keep your surfboard in good conditions and significantly extend its life. And when the hot surf season hits again, you'll be able to ride your e-surf like you used to without any difficulties.
But first of all, let's remind you of a few key rules. Your surf should always be washed thoroughly. This is especially important for those who surf in salt water - the board must be carefully rinsed of salt with fresh water after each ride. And when you plan to store the board for the winter, it needs to be washed, cleaned and prepared truly in depth.
Dealing with the inflatable e-surf
To start with you need to wash attentively the surface of the surf, its mast, wing and motor with water, remove sand, salt and other contaminants. It is especially critical to pay attention to the careful removal of seaweed and other organic debris that may attract pests or cause corrosion. You can use aqueous solutions with a small amount of non-aggressive detergents.
Then you need to completely dry up the surf to prevent mold from forming. The leash should also be well dried, and especially the pump, so that the rubber seals do not deteriorate in it and you won’t have to purchase a new one later. You can dry the board in the boiler room or leave it to dry longer in a dry, warm space, in both cases leaving all surfaces open, and only then put it away for storage.
If you don’t have that much space for storing your inflatable e-surf at home, you can carefully roll it up and put it in the bag. However it is always better to store an inflatable e-surf in an unfolded and slightly inflated state.
Temperature. It is better to store your board in a heated room. If you had to store the board at a low temperature, then the material would become rather rough and hard, so it cannot be unrolled straight away - at first you should bring it to a heated room for warming.
Storing a hard e-surf
Here is the same story as in the case of an inflatable surf - first you should wash the board and dry it thoroughly. Since it is also better to store such a board in a warm and dry room, and it takes up more space than an inflatable surfboard, it is better to think through in advance, even before buying, where you will store it. Perhaps one of the most convenient options to store it is to hang the board on the wall using special mounts. You can also place the board in a spacious closet or storeroom.
General rules
Any motorized surfboards mustn’t be stored:
- in rooms with high humidity (unheated garages, basements etc.)
- near any heating devices;
- under direct sunlight.
All about the battery
It is important to mention how to take care of the lithium-ion battery in winter. The surface of the battery should be cleaned with fresh water and then completely dried too. Electrical contacts must be first cleaned with contact cleaner and then sealed with a seawater-resistant grease.
Leave the energy charge at approximately 30-50%. It is recommended to store the battery in a dry place where the temperature does not drop below 0°C. Before charging it again, you will have to bring the battery into a warm room and wait 2-3 hours.
