Moto Surfing comes to Sweden: stage 3
The Moto Surf World cup stage in Sweden was exciting and eventful - just before the final races in Croatia (in October 2023) Minseong Kim and Aneta Stloukalova retook the Championship lead and Zahorsky struck back. One of the best resorts in the South of Sweden, the beautiful Bastad became the venue for the third round of the UIM MotoSurf World Championship.
There were really tense moments in the Open class as the championship leader Alex Lukscheider encountered technical problems and had a difficult weekend. At the same time, Jakub Kornfeil and Lukas Zahorski raced at an excellent pace this time. Lukas Zahorski dominated both finals to win Sunday's program, and Jakub Kornfeil finished second overall while Matyas Novotny took his first World Championship podium in the Open class.
Stock Class racing was a real show with Kim Minseong coming back strong from a disappointing weekend in Italy to score first and second to secure the overall win. The competitions in Sweden made Minseong the new championship leader heading into the championship finals in Croatia.
Kim Minseong’s compatriot Down Kim - the reigning world champion - returned to the podium, scoring 4th and 1st places in the final. Antony Squire from the US took his second podium finish in a row, he finished 3rd overall.
In the Merlin Plus Stock R class, the local rider Alexander Lanner lived up to Swedish hopes as he chased a podium finish.
Oliver Navara, the leader of the championship, managed to control both finals and got his victory. There was a great battle for the second spot between Alexander Lanner and Renzo De Craene from Belgium. After both finals Lanner got over Renzo.
In the Women class, two championship competitors, Eliska Matouskova and Aneta Stlukalova fought hard for every single point. Eliska Matouskova followed Aneta all weekend but suffered a bad moment in the first final when she was penalised for passing a buoy incorrectly, which dropped her to 5th place. Second place in the second shootout meant 3rd place overall. And Eliska Charousova managed to take second place.
Among the Junior boys Ramadhan Fares and Hamad Alhadad got first and second places respectively. Czech racer Adam Kolar finished the race third and took his first place podium. The weekend in the Junior Girls class was completely controlled by three Slovakian girls. Emma Strculova took the top step, while Sara Zuborova and Zara Kubincova finished the Swedish Grand Prix second and third respectively.
As part of the Electric Challenge, we saw the premiere victory of the Frenchman Julien Reynaud racing for Nauderay Surf Motorisé team. Czech rider Patrick Nalepa finished second ahead of championship leader Michal Skoček, who left Sweden tied on championship points with his rival Alain Coppens of Belgium.
The decisive final stage of the championship will take place in Zadar, Croatia on 6th – 8th October 2023.
