Second stage of the UIM MotoSurf Championship in Italy
The region of Puglia (Apulia) hosted the second stage of UIM Motorsurf World Championship from 16 to 18 June. It took place here for the second time. More than 90 racers from 15 different countries competed for the Italian trophy in the picturesque harbour of Porto Turistico di Rodi Garganico.
In the premier class of the championship - the Open Class - Alex Lukscheider won a premier victory, having it all - first he controlled the qualifying and then proved his speed in the heats. Marek Skamla from Slovakia fought hard to win, but in the end the likeable Slovakian took second place. The spectators witnessed an incredibly tense battle for third place between Jakub Kornfeil and Lukas Záhorskýi. In the final, Jakub achieved the best pace and took the last step of the podium.
In the Women Class, everyone was closely watching the performance of Eliska Matoušková and Aneta Stloukalová, the Czech duo setting the pace for the entire weekend. Eventually Eliska crossed the finish line first and increased her lead in the championship over Aneta Stloukalová. The battle for third place continued until South Korea's Eunjin Lee achieved her first World Championships finish.
Eunjin Lee commented on her first podium: “This moment is a dream coming true for me. The wait is finally over and I’m another Korean who made it to the podium but the very first female rider at the same time. I’m so proud of the Korean Team that has shown really strong performances in the last two years. I hope I’ll be able to repeat it in the next GP in Sweden.“
In the Stock class Czech rider Jakub Schejbal led the race ahead of Matej Surkos, Damian Kadlec, Jan Travnicek and Anthony Squire, who put in a great race from 7th on the grid. Leading the race until the last lap and the penultimate buoy, Jakub Schejbal crashed and dropped to 4th place, opening the door for Matej Surkos' first victory, which he made on his birthday! Damian Kadlec finished second while Anthony Squire made his first U.S. motosurf world championship podium after a strong performance in the final.
In the Stock R class there was a serious battle between the championship leader Oliver Navara and Renzo de Craene. Both racers qualified for the final with equal points. In the end, Renzo de Craena did better and won his first victory. Adam Hedberg was third and took his first championship podium.
The competitions in Italy also featured the Electric Challenge class - boards powered by electric motors. The Belgian racer dominated this class, with Alain Coppens winning over Czech Michal Skoček and French rider Julien Reynaud.
In the Junior girls the Slovakian racers Zara Kubincova and Emma Strculova lead and took 2 first places. The Czech talented Kristina Hrbkova completed the top three fastest girls.
In the Junior boys class, the race was dominated by Ramadan Fares (first place) and Hamad Alhaddad (second place) from Team Kuwait. The third fastest rider was Sebastian Kostelecky from the Czech Republic.
The third stage of the MotoSurf Championship season will take place in Bastad, Sweden, on 11th – 13th August.
